What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We're a small team of 10 people and we are very realistic about our resources versus our ambitions with Overstep.

Early Access is the perfect opportunity to provide a fun game the moment the team is happy with the core mechanics. While we have a clear vision for the game, players will always see Overstep from a different and refreshing perspective. Through building the community and setting up a convenient feedback loop, Early Access allows us to discuss updates, new features and listen to your feedback to create a game we can all play for an enternity.

The core mechanic of Overstep is acrobatic movement and winning through entertaining the crowd. The other main element is combat. Taking time to make sure every new feature compliments what’s there already, will let us thoughtfully and consistently deliver great content.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We have not set a due date for Overstep to leave Early Access. It’s important to us that the game fully launches in a state that respects both the original vision and feedback from your Early Access experiences.

That said, we're planning full launch in roughly 12-18 months from the Early Access launch.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version is all about the core experience and fun, fun, fun! That said, there are a number of features that we have designed and plan to add to the game. Some of them are:

- Game of the week
- Highlight of the match
- New maps
- New game modes
- New combat mechanics (i.e. ability system)
- Pickups around the levels
- Leaderboards

The Early Access features:
One main game mode - one more planned through-out Early Access
One gameplay level - a few more planned through-out Early Access
Both freerunning and combat mechanics”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“For Early Access, the core gameplay experience is fully implemented and will continue being polished. We are keeping a close eye on what affects the replayability of Overstep the most, making sure every new match is as least as much fun as the last one.

Early Access Features:
- 3 versus 3 multiplayer
- Practice mode
- One playable level
- One robot model with options for customisation
- One main Overstep game mode
- Freerunning movement mechanics
- Combat system with hitscan and projectile weapons
- In-game cosmetic purchases”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“If you decide to support the development of the game and make an in-game purchase, you will definitely get to keep everything when we go into full launch.

We don't plan to change the price of the in-game currency when moving from Early-Access to full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Our dream for Overstep is for it to become a competitive game, with a vast professional scene. To reach that goal, it’s critical to involve the community through the following discussions:

  • Gameplay balance

  • Suggestions and ideas

  • Bug finding

Our main channel to talk with the community is on Discord: discord.gg/Overstep
The secondary channel is our subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Overstep/
We will also start specific game mechanics discussions on Steam.”

Lore

Set in the year 2354, when humanity has spread to the stars, the vast, lawless frontier created by the rapid expansion has become uncontrollable. Civil unrest becomes too widespread for the G.S.O.P (Global Syndicate of Planets) to control. Joining forces with the galaxies seven largest corporations, they create a new type of game show called Overstep. A fight to the death, league-based system, Overstep is where the corporations battle to become top of the leader boards.

Using new advancements to artificial intelligence, the combatants in this new show use robots that can contain a human conscious. Called the Turing Automaton, these robots allow for the wars to rage with zero human casualties. Pro Gamers from all over the galaxy are sought to control these new machines and entertain the vast populations scattered across a thousand planets.

And this is where you, the player comes in. Take control of an automaton, choose your corporation (or not) and take center stage in a new sport for the modern citizen.
